I just found this.
That is pretty motivating. This morning it's hard to be motivated, because it's early and because things are looking bad for vinyl. SERATO vs. VINYL!
I am convinced that serato sounds very tinny. Sometimes you go out and hear a dj on serato and it sounds like a live stream from the internet; it's all dithered or something. Since I don't know any amazing dj's that have serato or have yet to have this conversation, I would just like to put that tin thing out there. What's up with that sound?
I was talking with Joee at More Better last weekend. {It was fun}. They are getting some dope dj's to drop in. Anyways, Joee was saying that some dj's would prefer to use cdj's because the sound quality is higher. It seems that perhaps the problem is the sound quality with serato. I would think it would be as easy as only playing mp3's that are 320 kbps and above but apparently some dj's don't have that in the head. I dunno? Or what my hopes are is that it's just serato that sucks.
Until someone puts a gun to my head I will play vinyl. It sounds better and I don't mind spending all my money on it. I have a huge collection and some pieces that I truly prize. Who cares about how heavy vinyl is. It's kind of like weight lifting. If you can't carry your regular crates, go and buy smaller ones. For me it keeps my arms toned and lookin fuckin awesome. ok not really.
Another point that was most likely not foreseen was that serato and free downloading would kill the record store culture. When I go to the record store I get something that I could never get online. Even as I type it's just that little letters you read on the screen. There are no people online. You can't smell the record store people breath or see cool art, etc, etc. That said when I go to the record store I talk to people. You run into your buddies. You bullshit about random stuff. You find out about more music! With that said you can't have that experience online. You can get the info. I check out blogs all the time. I like to stay contemporary don't get me wrong.
But you really miss out by staying at home. I don't have to go to the gym cuz I walk to the store and carry my records.
Record store aren't going away tomorrow. Used stores with be around forever. There's just something nice about going to the store and getting the newest vinyl. Then taking it home and getting your crates ready. Then you go to the gig and play the newest record, not the newest 192 kbps mp3. Don't you miss that feeling? Speaking of which it's even hard to do that. Distributors get vinyl to shops late. That is the one upside of mp3's, they are cheap. And I will rest my case there.
thanks for reading my novela!
